Case Study
No Kings Flagship Rally - St. Paul, MN
200,000 Attendees | Minnesota State Capitol
On March 28, No Kings hosted their flagship public rally at the Minnesota State Capitol, with an estimated 200,000 attendees.
The program featured Bruce Springsteen, Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Omar, Tim Walz, Jane Fonda, Joan Baez, and Maggie Rogers.
The stage was fully open on the Capitol steps, with no structural barriers between speakers and the crowd. For events like this—political rallies, press events, and high-profile public gatherings—speaker exposure is constant and highly visible.

The Requirement: On-Stage Protection Without Slowing Production
The organizing team needed a way to secure the stage without introducing delays, heavy infrastructure, or changes to how the event operated.
Key priorities included:
Fast, predictable load-in within a standard event production schedule
Clean integration with staging, podiums, and camera positions
Protection for speakers during live remarks
Minimal lift for the organizers and producers behind the rally
This is a common need across government events, campaign rallies, and public-facing appearances where security and access have to coexist.
Ballistic Glass Panels for Stage Protection
Event Shield Systems deployed rifle-rated ballistic glass panels for stage protection, positioned directly along the speaking line.
Coverage included podium positions and primary speaker marks, ensuring continuous protection throughout the program. Panels were specified and placed in advance based on stage layout, speaker flow, and press sightlines.
Lighting conditions were addressed early in planning. Because the stage combined daylight with production lighting, we advised on panel angle and placement to reduce glare and maintain usable camera shots across broadcast and press coverage.
Coordination between ESS and security, staging, and lighting, is what allows ballistic glass to function properly in a live event environment.

Turnkey Installation and Removal
The system was installed during the standard production load-in window, alongside stage and audio build.
No additional infrastructure or special handling was required from the client beyond access to the site and scheduled install time. Our team managed transport, placement, and final positioning in coordination with production and security leads.
After the event, we handled full strike and removal.
A turnkey approach—delivery, installation, coordination, and teardown—is central to how Event Shield Systems supports temporary ballistic protection for events.
Outcome
Speakers remained protected at the point of address throughout the event, with no changes to run of show, movement, or press operations.
For the organizing team, the process stayed simple:
Provide staging and schedule
Align on placement in advance
Allow time for load-in
Everything else, from planning through removal, was handled on our side.
Applications
This deployment reflects a growing need across:
Political rallies and campaign events
Government press conferences
Corporate announcements and executive appearances
Large-scale public gatherings with open access
In each case, ballistic glass for stages provides a practical layer of protection without requiring permanent infrastructure or altering the event environment.
